Anxiety is a natural reaction to stress and allows us to deal with stressful situations. However, when anxiety appears to be triggered by simple everyday situations and begins to take over, it no longer helps us to cope and instead becomes overwhelming and a problem in itself.
Feelings of anxiety are often triggered by situations that we perceive to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. They are often combined with panic attacks and the symptoms associated with them such as shortness of breath, palpitations, dizziness and nausea.
Psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and relaxation techniques can help to ease anxiety by teaching the sufferer to recognize the onset of an anxiety attack and to deal effectively with the symptoms. The situation that is creating the anxiety can also be addressed, so that the sufferer is placed back in control and able to cope effectively with it.
